Mark Hawthorne Antrim E3 Schools Worker
Mark is the first worker to be placed in the Antrim district and he began the work in August 2010. Before joining the SU schools team Mark had studied Theology and Youth Ministry at Union College in Belfast and after that had been an intern with the Presbyterian Chaplaincy at Queens. Mark is passionate about sharing Jesus with children and young people and has been part of numerous SU camps and missions over the years. Here’s what Mark has to say about his first term in the job:
“I feel really privileged that I’ve been given the chance to share Jesus with children and young people through this project. Schools are a special place, where children learn, laugh, make friends and look up to those around them. They are designed to be safe and caring places, so to be given the chance to serve so many schools is a great privilege. I love the challenge of presenting the Bible to children and young people in fresh, relevant and creative ways and nothing makes me happier than when I see children and young people enjoying the experience of learning about Jesus.”
Mark’s role include hands-on involvement in assemblies, R.E. lessons and S.U. groups, whether in primary, post-primary or special schools, giving support, and encouragement to Christian teachers and the promotion of healthy church-school links.
Latest News
This is a busy but exciting month for me. I'm leading the 'Amazing Jesus' R.E. lessons in 3 primary schools alongside our primary school worker, Paul Cameron. I'm also involved in numerous assemblies, a few SU groups and a lot of planning will be going in to 'Unite' this month, which is our inter-schools event. I'll also be helping Rick lead the 'Energise' weekend from the 18th to the 20th. This weekend is for year 8 to year 10 pupils and it's really exciting for us as it's the first time SU has run such an event and I'm looking forward to being part of it. Thanks for your continued support.
Mark
